I have never been a fan of brands, actually never thought that brands really matter. My parents raised me and my 3 brothers in a middle-class, free and nonmaterialistic way of life. For me chocolate bars names for instance, did matter, but I never perceived them as brands as a child. What we cared for, me and my friends, in my village, was to have a colorful pair of good football shoes, or a fast bicycle… I don’t actually recall any of my friends talking about Adidas or Nike shoes, and of course no luxury fashion brands. And I am trying as much as possible to raise my kids the same way, though nowadays, social media has made it all a bit challenging.
And no, this has nothing to do with poverty or with stinginess. The concept of being attached to some branded sunglasses, or a watch or mobile brand doesn’t make any sense to me. I truly believe that as long as the quality is very good, fitting within my budget, then the product is worth buying.
Am I the only one who thinks that way? Do you have a current favorite brand? Can anyone explain seriously what makes a specific luxury brand (mainly fashion) somebody’s constant obsession?
I see your point, but I don’t think that favoring a fashion brand is considered an obsession. I am a big fan of Adidas, I am an athlete and I find that Adidas clothing designs and material quality match pretty well with my taste in outfits. I also don’t shop from regular shops but rather from outlet shops. I also wouldn’t spend a fortune over a branded luxury jacket or a pair of boots. There are amazing quality clothes and leather boots locally made with a quality standard that easily competes with well-known luxury brands.
I love lots of brands, because I associate them with high quality or with sustainability or with specific design that fits my expectations and preferences. I was also not brought up that way, but over the years I learned to appreciate my Nespresso Ispirazione Ristretto Italiano and can’t imagine starting my day without it. Or my Gucci jeans, their cut fits perfectly and their sizes are so unique that can’t even convert them to other brands sizes. Patagonia is also one of my most favorite brands for outdoor activities. Also, my Sneakers bars are my most cherished treat. Pampers white diapers, Volvo XC90 and so on. I don’t personally look at brands the way you do. I actually like brands
I drive a 25-year-old gorgeous Corvette 1999, 5.7-liter, 345 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, Six-speed stick shift. A beautiful high-quality car with a powerful engine, and I will keep driving it till it falls apart. It’s not the money or the cost or the financial value as much as it is the psychological value. I wouldn’t trade it for any other car out there. As for fashion brands, I am honestly never bothered.
