What happened to those once extremely popular brands and products that rocked the market before vanishing out of existence?
I remember those years when almost every parking lot you looked at in Dubai you would spot parked funky coloured Hummers. In fact I recall that four of my friends bought Hummers in 2008!
What about the Oldsmobile cars of the 80s? Did you know that this GM motors division sold over one million cars annually between 1983 and 1986 before shutting down in 2004, being the oldest surviving American automobile brand and one of the oldest automobiles in the world?
My uncle Tony keeps his blue Oldsmobile in his garage, next to his old white Buick – another discontinued beauty – though he doesn’t drive them anymore, he refused to sell them. He is a true Angel Customer. After 40 years, these two old vehicles still carry the dearest part in uncle Tony’s heart.
What about you? Do you remember a discontinued once popular brand or product?

Dunkin Dunkaccino was by far my favourite. I remember the day they announced that the company decided to discontinue both hot and frozen. I still can’t find a drink that pleases my taste buds like Dunkaccino did. It’s kinda sad.
For me and my partner Taco Bell’s Quesarito was our Friday’s favourite. We tried to imitate the same quesadilla-burrito at home but it never tasted the same. Why would a brand do that when thousands of people love their product! I can’t understand.
My wife’s favourite perfume of all time was Casmir by Chopard, since the early 90s. When she first heard about the product’s discontinuation she literally went into panic mode. We toured all parfumerie shops in the US and every airport we and our friends passed through in desperate search for bottles. She now has a stock of 30-35 bottles LOL. I totally respect her feelings and I wish Chopard would ever communicate with her.
35 bottles? LOL
My beloved Dodge Charger also came to an end as announced by the company. This is a sad day for all fans.
I like to read more about dead products that came back to life. I think some of the most popular products that are discontinued now will be back from the dead soon. It feels like a marketing game for a stronger comeback. Just saying.
I don’t totally agree. These favourite products are so popular already and don’t need further marketing tricks. In fact, some fans will find alternatives at some point and never come back, at least that’s how I see it.
Possible, but if you are a true fan, or Angel Customer as they call it here, will you ever be satisfied with a replacement?
My wife for instance won’t be happy with any other perfume. But I know many who found a replacement for their favourite discontinued products and are even happier, due to affordability or better taste or better options etc.. I think it is quite personal.
