Am sure you all heard about this fuss about AI Fashion lately. I am not a fashionista or anything close to that, but I heard from my designers’ friends that it is a cool thing. I mean as a fashion designer if you can get the opportunity to cut costs significantly and create thousands of AI designs and dress up (and reuse for free) thousands of AI models from all races, genders, ages etc.. And only produce these designs when you know that they will eventually sell in the market, you will not only be saving your bank account but also in a super sustainable way. I find this really awesome.
I mean the last couple years were very difficult financially, especially for newly graduated and young designers, and AI will seriously help control their expenses curve.
On the other hand, I also heard from friends in the modeling industry that this trend has created serious concerns.
Based on my readings, I can see that more brands are embarking on the AI Fashion wave, actually, many have been doing that for many years already. The scary part is that some platforms have mastered it so well, that as a customer shopping online, I couldn’t tell anymore if the fashion items am looking at are AI or real and if the models are real or not.
Any thoughts?

I have not read enough about it but from what I understand is that AI fashion if not controlled and used properly, it will damage mainly to models. These young and freshly graduated people have bills to pay, they have ambitions and a career. Brands have to ethically manage.

Brands know that this will affect their image and reputation and are fully aware of the consequences. So far, AI models use is kind of limited and does not cause a threat to human models.

My thoughts go to the gifted tailors that spend weeks to produce a masterpiece handmade. They are real talent and I hope they will still exist in the next 10 years from now.

I just read the article on Jesta Freak about AI Fashion https://devser.xyz/jf/new-era-ai-fashion-pros-cons/ and they mentioned the same. I don’t think handmade fashion will disappear, however it might get more exclusive.

Well, that is also not good news, at least to the ones who could now afford handmade. If this market shrinks, the demand will therefore shrink and so the income. Makes sense. Why AI has to be induced in everything? I am not a senior person, but I have a bit of conservative thinking. I honestly don’t understand some people’s enthusiasm about AI here. AI is great and helping humanity in endless great things but please keep it away from fashion. This doesn’t only apply to models and tailors but also to designs.

I have mixed feelings about this AI thing. Also, the article published here https://devser.xyz/jf/new-era-ai-fashion-pros-cons/ makes really good sense. I mean AI is based on collected data and transactions, right? but the data is not really accurate, so designs production is not very efficient and sustainable as they claim it to be. I give you an example, I was talking with my buddy about it last Saturday actually, looking back at the relationships we both had, we came to realize that we always bought gifts for our previous girlfriends using our own bank cards. Now these girlfriends don’t exist in our lives anymore, but we still receive regular promotional offers and AI generated emails about the products we once purchased for these long gone girlfriends estimated by data that these products are ours. Doesn’t make any sense!

Yes you are not the one to wear them but your ex-girlfriends will, so no waste and that is the point of it. Now I agree with you that emails are sent to you and not to them and that is the wrong part of it, because you did the transactions not them.

It is not only fashion. I just read that car brands are also replacing employees and engineers by robots and proudly calling it sustainability.
My thoughts go to all those employees who lost/will lose their jobs and source of income for couple of millions dollar robots. I see no sustainability here. Same with AI Fashion. Any robot that replaces a human, a bread maker in the family won’t get my support. AI is great when it is used in the right fields and for the right cause, like those newly invented robot jet-lifeguards that float-drive- swim to the drawing person, monitored by a remote control. There are 8 billion people out there and everybody needs to make their living and pay their bills.
