In the world of fashion, understanding the concept of Quiet Luxury is crucial for brands aiming to resonate with today’s consumers, particularly the Gen Z clientele. Quiet Luxury embodies understated elegance, focusing on exceptional quality, timeless design, and subtle branding. It eschews ostentatious displays of wealth in favor of a more refined, personalized experience. This approach has gained popularity across generations, with Gen Z showing a strong affinity for brands that prioritize sustainability and craftsmanship over conspicuous logos and flashy displays of wealth. Shows like Succession and platforms like TikTok have further propelled Quiet Luxury into the mainstream, making it a significant trend in the fashion industry in the whole world including China.
The resurgence of Quiet Luxury in recent years is not just a fashion statement but also reflects economic trends. Historically, periods of financial uncertainty have seen a rise in the appeal of understated luxury, as seen during the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-2008. Brands like Céline and Loro Piana have excelled in offering discreet yet luxurious options, resonating with consumers during times of economic downturns. The Covid-19 pandemic further amplified this trend, with consumers increasingly valuing sustainability and conscious consumption. As Quiet Luxury continues to thrive, the question remains which brands will adapt and join this movement next, shaping the future of luxury in the fashion industry.
Article: Quiet Fashion Luxury, The Whispering Brands
Quiet fashion luxury is not new. It gains popularity every now and then during recessions. Quiet luxury is also found in interior design, brands like Cubéchairs from Morada-Haute Furniture Boutique, Wasser, Dmitry &Co, Studiotwentyseven, etc.. In my understanding, quiet luxury is a lifestyle that understands elegance and old money. People who come from wealthy old money family line are mostly the people who don’t care about showing logos and tags that show expensive bills.
This explains why newly rich people “nouveaux riches” are all soaked in brands and logos👍
So you want to tell me that Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs dress up in silent luxury? Because I never see any logo on their clothes.
Sofia Richie’s wedding last year was all about quiet luxury and it went viral!
I remember being confused by the virality of her wedding. Honestly it looked like any rich person’s wedding to be honest. The trend of praising rich people is confusing.
I agree with you. My Omi always used to say, “Money talks, Wealth whispers”. Quality over flash, always.
I love that!
Totally agree!
I personally think that there is nothing wrong in enjoying wearing my branded Chanel Caviar bag or my Gucci buckled belt etc. I don’t feel bad about it. I worked hard to afford buying luxury products. I can’t afford buying regularly though, especially after the recession and I don’t think I would go for whispering brands even if I could afford it. But that is my opinion. I work in fashion and I LOVE flashy stuff and logos.
It’s not about feeling bad wearing branded stuff. It’s a matter of personal taste. Silent luxury fashion flourishes mainly during recessions as wealthy people prefer to stay low profile in terms of “show-off” in respect for the public’s feelings. At the same time, knowing that they are wearing high quality material, fitting them perfectly, from their beloved brands without offending other people who can’t afford that brand.
