Until 1995 if you wanted something you couldn’t find at a store, you had to go through pawn shops, flea markets, newspaper ads, or second-hand stores in the hopes of finding that treasure you were after. Whether it was a Pez dispenser, a beanie baby, or anything else in between, finding that particular item was quite difficult. Then eBay was born and the world changed.
People could now find the most unusual things, services, or collectibles they could only previously dream of just by browsing and bidding on their computers. And online auctioning was born and quickly the whole planet was addicted.
Collectors in particular now had a community where to find what they were after no matter how rare or scarce it was.
Despite some difficulties, controversies, and the arrival of Amazon to the online bidding game, eBay still is the place you go to in search of that really hard to find item
Now one of the largest digital companies in the world, and one of the few survivors of the dot-com bubble, it is hard to think of a world before eBay.
