You know the saying that it’s the quietest person in the room who you should listen to most?
That’s Microsoft.
Microsoft has been a constant in many of our lives. Sitting in the background, sure, but there all the same. And for those of us who use Microsoft products over Apple, Samsung, Google, or IBM (depending on the device), it’s that quiet modesty and total reliability we’ve all grown to love.
Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft in 1975 to create software for the first prototype of a personal computer. The company quickly grew and went public by 1987. During that time, Bill Gates became the world’s youngest billionaire.
(Quick shout out to Bill here for his charitable projects. He might be a billionaire but he seems to use that fortune for good, and that’s worth calling out!)
Quiet confidence aside, Microsoft is known for innovative technology that makes everyday lives easier. The company’s vision and business model are so successful in fact that it was found in violation of antitrust laws in the late 1990s. Basically, the US government determined that the company was making it impossible for competitors to enter the market. In case it wasn’t clear — having no competitors isn’t good for anyone. Just look at YouTube…
And since those initial days of cornering the software engineering market, Microsoft has launched subscription services, devices, and the Xbox (the best console, don’t @ me).
Companies across all industries have integrated Microsoft products into their daily operations. The $1.68 trillion company is an industry leader in offering collaboration and engagement products to make remote working a breeze. Yes, Excel doesn’t look great, but its functionality can’t be beaten. And Teams has all but taken over most hybrid workers’ days.
The brand may not have an exciting or nostalgic feeling for a lot of people, but that doesn’t make it less than any other brand. The company took the world by storm and continuously cranks out new innovations. Isn’t it exciting to think about what will come next?
