Although credit cards are increasing in popularity in the Netherlands, most Dutch people still pay with their debit card or cash. During Corona, we have seen a dramatic increase in contactless payments through these debit cards. For credit cards the maximum you can pay is EUR 50 per contactless transaction.
So, at which supermarkets can you pay with a credit card? The common answer is almost all supermarkets in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, the largest supermarket Albert Heijn, with the most branches in Amsterdam, only accepts credit cards in three branches in the city!
We at Jesta Freak would encourage Albert Heijn to consider implementing credit card payments (including contactless), at all their branches, especially once we can welcome back again visitors from around the world.
